Registering your own Windows license
If you chose Windows Server 2025 (bring your own license) when ordering, you need to register your own genuine license key after you get the server. With this option, Nevv doesn't provide a license, and in return no license fee is charged.
You are responsible for any legal or financial liability arising from using it without a genuine license or without registering one. If you don't have a license, please choose Windows Server 2025 (license included), which includes a license, from your next order on.
What you need
- A genuine product key for Windows Server 2025 (25 characters,
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) - Remote Desktop access (RDP connection guide)
Method 1. Register in Settings
- Connect to the server with Remote Desktop.
- Go to Start → Settings → System → Activation.
- Click Change product key and enter the 25-character key.
- When you see "Windows is activated", you're done.
Method 2. Register with commands
Open PowerShell as administrator and enter the following in order.
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX # Install the product key
slmgr /ato # Activate online
You can check the activation status with the command below.
slmgr /xpr
If you see "The machine is permanently activated", everything is in order.
If it doesn't work
- "The product key is invalid" — Make sure it's a key for Windows Server 2025. Keys for Windows 10/11 or earlier versions of Server can't be used.
- Edition errors such as "key can't be used with this edition" — Check that the key's edition (Standard / Datacenter) matches the installed edition, and if that doesn't solve it, contact technical support.
- Can't connect to the activation server — Wait a moment and run
slmgr /atoagain.
