Renaming, starting, stopping and rebooting your server

Here's how to rename your server or control its power from your Dashboard.

Renaming a server

1. Go to the server details page in your Dashboard.
2. Click the pencil icon next to the server name.
3. Enter the name you want and click "Save".

The server name is a display name only you see, so feel free to name your servers however makes them easy to tell apart when you run several. It doesn't affect how the server actually runs.

Start / Stop / Reboot

You can control the power with the buttons at the bottom of the server details page.

• ▶ Start — Appears when the server is off (Stopped). Click it to turn the server on.
• ■ Stop — Appears when the server is on (Running). Shuts the server down normally.
• ↺ Reboot — Restarts the server. Use it when the server isn't responding or a settings change hasn't taken effect.

Things to note

• After a power request, it may take a few dozen seconds for the status to actually change. The page refreshes automatically, so please wait a moment.
• When you stop the server yourself, that time isn't counted as an outage, because being stopped isn't an outage.
• If something goes wrong inside the server, such as a forced shutdown, and the power buttons don't respond, check the screen directly with the VNC console.
